81-year-old among three charged in Virginatown, Larder Lake drug trafficking investigation

LARDER LAKE - On May 27, 2020, officers from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) North East Region Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) with the assistance of the North East Region OPP Crime Unit, the North East Region OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT) and the North East Region OPP Canine Unit (K9), executed search warrants at a residence on Godfrey Street in Larder Lake and at a residence on Webster Street in Virginiatown.

Police seized drugs suspected to be cocaine, opioids and cannabis with an estimated street value of $15,100. Also seized were two vehicles and a large amount of Canadian currency.

As a result of the police investigation, three people were arrested and charged.

Daniel Groulx, age 43, of Larder Lake, was charged with the following:

  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - cocaine, contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA),
  • Possession of a scheduled I substance for the purpose if trafficking - opioid, contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA,
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC), and
  • Possession of over 30g dried cannabis in a public place, contrary to section 8(1)(a) of the Cannabis Act (CA).

Real Groulx, age 81, of Larder Lake, was charged with the following:

  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - cocaine, contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA),
  • Possession of a scheduled I substance for the purpose if Trafficking - opioid, contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA,
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC), and
  • Possession of over 30g dried cannabis in a public place, contrary to section 8(1)(a) of the Cannabis Act (CA).

Tania Groulx, age 39, of Virginiatown, was charged with the following:

  • Possession of a schedule I substance - opioid, contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA).

All three accused were released on an Undertaking and are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Kirkland Lake on July 30, 2020.
