54-year-old faces assault, theft charges

The Timmins Police Service has charged a local person with assault and theft related offences stemming from an incident that occurred on during the evening hours of Sunday, Feb. 13 at a Montgomery Avenue apartment building in Timmins.

A Timmins Police Service officer responded to the call for service regarding a guest who had assaulted a female occupant of the unit when confronted about attempting to steal items from the apartment.

[It is alleged that] the guest fled the apartment after the altercation, taking a number of the tenant’s items with him.

Based on the investigation, the responding officer was able to identify, locate, and arrest the male suspect later that same day and took him into custody.

Upon arrest, some of the stolen items were found among the accused person’s personal effects. As a result of the incident, George Lebrun, 54 of Timmins, has been charged with:
    •    Theft under $5,000 contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
    •    Possession of property obtained by crime contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
    •    Assault with a weapon contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

The female victim declined medical treatment.

Lebrun remains in police custody awaiting a bail hearing slated for today at the Ontario Court of Justice in Timmins to answer to the charges laid against him.
