$400K worth of suspected drugs seized in Cochrane traffic stop

A handgun reported stolen out of Florida was also recovered. Three individuals are facing a multitude of charges

Three people were arrested for drug trafficking and firearms charges after a traffic stop in Cochrane.

On May 7, 2023, at around 11:30 p.m., a member of the James Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop on Highway 11 South in Cochrane.

The driver was arrested on an outstanding warrant, and police located and seized drugs suspected to be cocaine, percocet, fentanyl, and cannabis with a total estimated street value of $400,000. Two other occupants of the vehicle were also arrested for drugs offences. Also seized were cell phones, approximately $6,500 in Canadian currency, and a loaded handgun. The handgun was identified as stolen out of the state of Florida.

As a result of this investigation, [a 25-year-old] of Brampton was arrested and charged with the following:

  • possession of a Schedule I substance - opioid
  • trafficking a Schedule I substance - opioid
  • trafficking a Schedule I substance - cocaine
  • possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - opioid
  • possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - cocaine
  • transport firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition in a careless manner
  • unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • occupant of a motor vehicle knowing there was a prohibited or restricted weapon
  • possession of loaded prohibited or restricted firearm
  • possession of a firearm, prohibited or restricted weapon obtain by crime
  • possession property obtained by crime under $5,000
  • knowledge of unauthorized possession of firearm
  • possessing cannabis for the purpose of selling
  • drive vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available
  • failure to comply with release order - other that to attend court
  • speeding, 25 km/h over posted speed limit
  • drive motor vehicle, no currently validated permit
  • class G1 licence holder - unaccompanied by qualified driver
  • drive vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available

Furthermore, [a 24-year-old] of Waterloo was arrested and charged with the following:

  • possession property obtained by crime under $5,000
  • possession of a firearm, prohibited or restricted weapon obtain by crime
  • possession of a Schedule I substance - opioid
  • trafficking a Schedule I substance - opioid
  • trafficking a Schedule I substance - cocaine
  • possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - opioid
  • possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - cocaine
  • transport firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition in a careless manner
  • unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • possessing cannabis for the purpose of selling

Furthermore, [a 26-year-old of Kingston was arrested and charged with the following:

  • possession of loaded prohibited or restricted firearm
  • possession property obtained by crime under $5,000
  • possession of a firearm, prohibited or restricted weapon obtain by crime
  • unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • transport firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition in a careless manner
  • possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - opioid
  • possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - cocaine
  • trafficking a Schedule I substance - opioid
  • trafficking a Schedule I substance - cocaine
  • possession of a Schedule I substance - opioid
  • possessing cannabis for the purpose of selling
  • possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order

All three accused persons appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice Bail Court in Cochrane on May 8, 2023, and remain in custody.
