$30K in suspected fentanyl, crack cocaine, methamphetamine seized in Moosonee

Four people are facing trafficking charges

MOOSONEE - A drug bust in Moosonee led to the seizure of more than $30,000 of drugs and charges against four people.

On Feb. 1 just before 3 p.m., James Bay OPP executed a search warrant on Wavey Crescent in Moosonee. 

Suspected fentanyl, crack cocaine and methamphetamine with an estimated street value of $30,200, along with $10,200 in Canadian cash was seized by police. 

Four people — a 24-year-old from Etobicoke, a 23-year-old from Brampton, a 30-year-old from Moosonee, and a 23-year-old from Etobicoke — are charged with: 

  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - cocaine
  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - opioid
  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - methamphetamine
  • Possession of proceeds of property obtained by a crime, over $5,000

The accused are in police custody waiting for a bail hearing today. 

Police say that they're committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of community members. 

"Operations like these are essential in combating the harmful effects of illicit drugs and the associated criminal activities," reads an OPP news release. 

None of the charges have been tested in court and the accused are considered innocent unless proven guilty.
