James Bay OPP recently made its third impaired driving arrest of the year.

On March 14 just before 9 a.m., police received a call about a suspected impaired driver on the ice road between Moosonee and Moose Factory.

Officers found the vehicle stuck on the ice adjacent to the road. The driver was arrested and brought to the Moosonee detachment for further testing.

A 36-year-old woman from Moose Factory was charged with operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs.

Both of the accused were released from police custody and are scheduled to appear in court in Moosonee on May 7.

The first impaired incident was on Jan. 25 around 8 a.m. Police responded to a call about a taxi stolen from a Hutchinson Road driveway in Moosonee.

"When police attended the scene, the suspect had already returned with the stolen vehicle, and was still sitting in the driver's seat. Police determined that the driver had been consuming an alcohol beverage, and the driver was arrested and transported to the Moosonee detachment for further testing," said OPP in a news release.

A February impaired charge also involved a stolen vehicle.

Shortly after 6 p.m. on Feb. 11, police were called about a stolen vehicle in Moosonee believed to be driving on the ice road to Moose Factory.

The stolen vehicle was found stuck in a snowbank with minor damage. The driver fled the scene before police arrived.

An extensive search of the area led to the arrest of a 16-year-old from Moosonee who is charged with:

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Fail to stop after an accident
