In response to a number of recurring traffic complaints regarding:

  • Excessive speed
  • Texting while driving
  • Running red lights

By motorists at key identified areas of concern, a traffic enforcement initiative was undertaken by the Timmins Police over this past weekend. Concerns were identified to the police in regards to specific types of aggressive driving behaviours linked to collisions and “near hit” incidents.

In order to address these identified concerns, a concentrated traffic initiative was undertaken involving the deployment of Timmins Police platoon officers starting on Friday March 12 and continuing to the end of the weekend.

Additionally, Timmins Police officers focused enforcement attention on red light violations at key intersections identified as areas where collisions frequently occur.

A total of 26 offence notices were issued to motorists observed committing the following infractions:

  • Five red light intersection violations
  • One insurance document violation
  • One equipment violation
  • Twelve speeding offences
  • Seven “use hand held device while driving” violations

The Timmins Police Service remains firmly committed to traffic safety and will continue to undertake these measures with a renewed need to address Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) speeding violations as well as a chronic failure to make proper use of the curb lane.
