25-year-old charged with impaired driving

The accused was also in possession of suspected cocaine

(MATACHEWAN, ON) - On October 16, 2021, at approximately 12:04 p.m., frontline members of the Kirkland Lake Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a single motor vehicle collision on Highway 66 in the Town of Matachewan.

The investigation revealed that the driver was under the influence of alcohol and was arrested at the scene. Further investigation resulted in the seizure of drugs suspected to be cocaine.

As a result, Kayla Sabourin, 25-years-of-age, of Kirkland Lake, has been charged with;

  • Operation While Impaired - Alcohol, contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC)
  • Operation While Impaired - Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 Plus), contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) of the CC
  • Dangerous Operation, contrary to section 320.13(1) of the CC
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance - Cocaine, contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act

The driver was issued a 90-day Administrative Driver's Licence Suspension (ADLS) and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

The accused was released on an Undertaking and is scheduled to attend the Ontario Court of Justice in Kirkland Lake on November 25, 2021.
