14-year-old faces weapons, assault charges in Temiskaming Shores

Police say the youth brandished a weapon at another pedestrian while walking downtown

TEMISKAMING SHORES - On Aug. 30, 2020 shortly after 10:15 p.m., members of the Temiskaming Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to an altercation call on Whitewood Street at Wellington Street in the City of Temiskaming Shores.

Further investigation revealed that an individual ]allegedly] brandished a weapon at another pedestrian while walking downtown. Police patrolled the area and a short time later, the accused was observed and arrested.

A 14-year-old youth of Temiskaming Shores, who cannot be identified under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA), has been charged with the following:
    •    Assault with a weapon (YP 12-17 criminal offence, contrary to section 267(a) of the Criminal Code (CC), and
    •    Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose, contrary to section 88 of the CC.

The accused was released on an Undertaking and is scheduled to appear at the Youth Court of Justice at a later date, in the City of Temiskaming Shores.
