October 2, 1941 - March 13, 2024

It is with sadness in our hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Valerie Sloan on March 13, 2024 with her loving family at her side. She is finally at peace after suffering a life-altering stroke 27 years ago at the age of 55. Born and raised in Timmins, Valerie moved to Toronto in 1958 where she met and fell in love with her husband of 63 years, Robin Sloan.

She was predeceased by her parents, Frank and Eileen Ellies and her brother Wayne Ellies. Valerie was heartbroken at the sudden loss of her decades long close friend and companion, Maria Mackenzie, to an illness. Valerie is survived by her husband Robin Sloan, sons Todd Sloan (Stephan Williams) and Trevor Sloan, sister Shirlee Ellies (Bill Zaveda), as well as many nieces and nephews. Valerie was always happiest over the years, sailing with her family on Lake Ontario and Georgian Bay.

She loved nature and was known to be the sole source of food to hundreds of birds, chipmunks and squirrels that lived around her home. The family would like to recognize and express their heartfelt appreciation to the exceptional team and staff of Sunrise of Richmond Hill for their care and compassion throughout the 22 years that they cared for Valerie. To honour her wishes, a cremation has taken place and there will be no service.
