Canada tied for 12th at world amateur men's team golf championships

MAYNOOTH, Ireland — Canada is tied for 12th after the opening round of the world amateur men's team golf championships.

Garrett Rank of Elmira, Ont., Joey Savoie of La Prairie, Que., and Hugo Bernard of Mont-Saint-Hilaire, Que., combined to shoot 5-under 139 on Wednesday in the first round (only the top two scores count) of the 72-hole event.

Rank led the way with a 4-under 68, Savoie had a 71 and Bernard carded a 74.

Denmark leads the team competition at 12 under.

Individually, Rank sits in a tie for 12th. Rayhan John Thomas of India leads at 9 under.
