HERNING, Denmark — Canada is adding defenceman Marc-Edouard Vlasic to its world hockey championship roster.

The veteran blue liner became available when the San Jose Sharks were eliminated by Vegas in the second round of the NHL playoffs.

Vlasic will be trying for a third world championship medal in four appearances after helping Canada earn silver in 2009 and 2017.

He also helped Canada to titles at the 2014 Winter Olympics and the 2016 World Cup of Hockey.

Vlasic just finished his 12th NHL season with San Jose, scoring a career-high 11 goals and adding 21 assists in 81 games.

Canada has two regulation wins and a shootout loss at the tournament heading into a game against Norway on Thursday.
