The Timmins Festival of Fireworks Committee is happy to announce that teams representing eight countries have now confirmed participation in the event.

The international fireworks competition and concerts will be part of a spectacular week of activities in the community.

The following teams will be taking part:

June 24 TEAM FRANCE: Féérie Feux D’Artifices, Saint-Herblain, France
June 25 TEAM ITALY: Ipon Fireworks, Ottaviano, Naples, Italy
June 26 TEAM FINLAND: Oy Pyroman Finland, Espoo, Finland
June 27 TEAM UKRAINE: Dance of Fire, Kiev, Ukraine
June 28 TEAM CHINA: Hefung Fireworks Limited, Hepu, Guangxi, China
June 29 TEAM BRAZIL: Fireworks do Brasil, Rio de Janiero, Brazil
June 30 TEAM U.K: Titanium Fireworks, Cambridge, England
July 1 TEAM CANADA:

David Whysall International Fireworks Inc.

“We are happy to have all eight teams confirmed, and can now move to the next phase of planning for the event. I am confident each team will bring a unique look into the music and culture of their country, while putting on the most spectacular displays Northern Ontario has ever seen. We hope to have a similar announcement on the concert performers before the end of the month” said Mayor Steve Black.

Events will kick off on Saturday June 24, which happens to be St Jean Baptiste Day. There will be a celebration of francophone culture and its significance to the city and region throughout the day, including many free activities for families to enjoy. The night will finish with a concert featuring francophone headliners and kick off the international fireworks festival with Team France, which will be part of the paid entry portion of the event.

The festival will continue throughout the week, celebrating the culture and history of the region, including our First Nation Partners. It will be a weeklong celebration of Ontario 150 and Canada 150 events encouraged by the provincial and federal levels of government.

Throughout the week, there will be many free activities, in addition to the paid concerts, for people of our city and those visiting for the festival to become more familiar with the history of our city, province and country. Grant applications have been made with both levels of government to help offset some of the costs of these activities, in line with their commitment to celebrating Ontario 150 and Canada 150.

The concert series and Festival of Fireworks will wrap up on Saturday July 1. Although the entire week will be filled with great entertainment and headliners, July 1 is promised to be a spectacular night with an estimated crowd of over 20,000 expected for the concert and fireworks and many more who will enjoy the other activities around the community.

“We would like to thank the team from Whysall International Fireworks and community volunteer John Curley for their assistance in firming up the firework lineup. We would also like to thank Goldcorp Porcupine Gold Mines for partnering with us for the event and allowing us to launch fireworks from their berm at Hollinger Park, along with the operational adjustments they will make to allow the event to be a success. Without the wonderful working relationships of great corporate partners we would not be able to put on this spectacular festival, and their assistance and support is truly appreciated!”

Ticket sale for the concerts and fireworks portion of the event is expected to be launched in November.

We’d like to thank residents for showing tremendous support, and are thrilled the Facebook page has received over 2,000 followers in the 10 days since its launch.
