Woman charged with attempted murder

The Timmins Police Service has arrested a North Bay woman stemming from an incident where a 44-year-old Timmins man sustained serious injuries in an altercation involving an edged weapon. 

The incident is alleged to have occurred in an Elm Street South apartment during the evening hours of Friday, June 21, where the female suspect is alleged to have assaulted a male victim. 

The 44-year-old male person was taken to Timmins and District Hospital for medical treatment for significant physical injuries. 

Responding Timmins Police Service officers completed a comprehensive crime scene investigation which included deployment of officers from the Criminal Investigation Division as well as the Forensic Identifications Section. 

An arrest warrant was sought and obtained by the Timmins Police Service in the name of the accused person. 

The suspect was located and arrested yesterday evening in South Porcupine by the Timmins Police Service. 

As a result of this incident, Samantha Kitler, 30, of North Bay, was taken into custody and is charged with: 

  • attempt to commit murder contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada 
  • aggravated assault contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada 
  • possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada 
  • uttering threats contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada 
  • fail to comply with recognizance contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada 

The accused remains in police custody awaiting a bail hearing slated for this morning at Provincial Court in Timmins to answer to the charges laid against her.
