NEWS RELEASE
TIMMINS POLICE SERVICE
*************************
The Timmins Police Service has been made aware that a number of pedestrians are crossing the Mattagami River on foot. With warmer weather expected in the next few days, the Timmins Police Service is issuing a public safety advisory warning against this practice.

Ice conditions can be deceiving and flowing water can affect overall ice thickness on the Mattagami River. It is recommended that pedestrians make use of the appropriate pathways on either of the Mattagami River bridges: Algonquin Blvd and Lafleur Drive, until further notice.

The Timmins Police Service actively discourages the practice of crossing the frozen sections of the Mattagami River on foot as this practice is viewed as unsafe with thaw conditions taking hold. The cooperation of the general public in regards to this matter is appreciated.
