The Connecting Link work on Algonquin Boulevard near the Balsam Street intersection on Sept. 18, 2023.

Construction work is ongoing on two sections of the city's main road.

With winter on its way, the City of Timmins has given new updates on when Algonquin and Riverside could reopen.

The section of Riverside from Shirley Street to Government Road is anticipated to reopen in early October, said the City of Timmins in an update on Sept. 15. This section includes a new sidewalk on the north side of the road from the Timmins Square to the Government Road intersection, where the Home Depot plaza is.

"Contractors are finishing concrete and will move to paving the base and binder layers. Work will then move to surface paving, line painting, and electrical," reads the city's post.

The biggest section being done this year is Algonquin from Mountjoy to Cedar.

That section is expected to open in the late fall.

Right now, the city says that the contractor is doing pipe installation from Birch to Balsam.
