A statement giving people early notice for potential flooding has been extended in the Timmins area.

With the recent snow and precipitation along with the snow melting, the Timmins Flood Advisory Committee says that water levels are higher than normal.

The group is extending its flood outlook statement, which is an early notice of potential flooding based on weather forecasts and other conditions that could lead to high runoff, ice jams, lakeshore flooding or erosion.

"City residents are once again cautioned against venturing out on lakes, rivers and small streams where slippery stream banks, thin ice, dangerous currents and fast-moving water will make all waterways very hazardous. Parents especially are urged to warn their children of these dangers," reads the news release.
