A family-friendly walk to raise cash and awareness for ALS is this week in Timmins.

Thursday, July 18 the Walk to End ALS is taking place at Gillies Lake. Registration is at 5 p.m., with the five-kilometre trek starting at 6 p.m.

The annual event raises money for research and to support people with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), which doesn't have a cure.

“ALS is a disease with a debilitating effect not only for the person with the disease but for the family as well – and there is no cure,” says Mary Anne Walsh, Regional Manager, North East Ontario, ALS Canada.  “The Walk to End ALS is our most important fundraiser to help raise much-needed funds for research, community-based support, and equipment for clients, helping to alleviate the burden of this disease.”

The goal for the Timmins walk is to raise $7,500.
