The Timmins Public Library is excited to celebrate Ontario Public Library Week (OPLW) from Oct. 17 to 23, 2021. The week was proclaimed by Mayor George Pirie in Council Chambers on Oct. 13. We encourage all residents who don’t already have a library card to drop in and register for a membership, free of charge. Celebrate with us at both branches of the Library for a chance to win amazing prizes. One card, one million possibilities.
The following events have been planned for all members on-site, online and on the move!
Monday, Oct. 18 to Saturday, Oct. 23
- All Ages StoryWalk® Coping Through Creativity: (Main Branch)
- Come preview the time capsule book that our community has created from their experiences during the pandemic!
- Visit us for the Chance to Win! (both branches)
- Visit your nearest Library Branch to earn a ballot for your chance to WIN gift cards from local businesses. There will be three draws for adults and three draws for children throughout Ontario Public Library Week.
- Five ways to earn a ballot:
- 1. Register for a library card
- 2. Borrow an item from the library
- 3. Download the new Timmins Public Library app
- 4. Use a public computer
- 5. Complete our Adult or Children’s Scavenger Hunt
Monday, Oct. 18 to Sunday, Oct. 31
- Together We Read Ontario’s next digital book club pick (Libby app, formerly OverDrive). During this two-week program, there will be no waitlists and no holds for the elected book club title, Frying Plantain by Zalika Reid-Benta. The eBook and eAudiobook version will be available for simultaneous use on the Libby app
Monday, Oct. 18
- Patron Appreciation Day! (both branches)

- Halloween Party Night Kit (Bilingual): Family kits available for pick-up while supplies last, contact Library to request a kit
Tuesday, Oct. 19
- L’heure du conte: 10h30, 2 à 4 ans - Vidéo Facebook
Wednesday, Oct. 20
- Draw and Tell Story: 2:00 p.m., Ages 2-4 – Facebook Live
- Horror Night Kits for Adults (Bilingual): Available for pick-up while supplies last, contact Library to request a kit
Thursday, Oct. 21
- Storytime: 10:30 a.m., Ages 2-4 – Facebook video
- Scam Prevention with the Canada Revenue Agency: Information session at 6:00 p.m. via Zoom, contact Library to register and receive a login link
Friday, Oct. 22
- LitWits Youth Reading Club Kits (Bilingual): Registration opens for this 5-session program, Ages 8-12, kits available for pick-up
Saturday, Oct. 23
- In-Person Historic Cemetery Walk (Timmins Memorial Cemetery, 901 Pine Street South)
- A guided walk with the Reference Librarian through the historic sections of the Timmins Memorial Cemetery; choose from:
- Tour 1: 2 p.m.
- Tour 2: 3 p.m.
- Space is limited, all participants must register in advance, COVID-19 protocols will be followed (mask, physical distancing, etc.); contact the library to register and reserve your spot
- A guided walk with the Reference Librarian through the historic sections of the Timmins Memorial Cemetery; choose from:
