A ride through Cochrane's snowmobile trails is raising cash for the community's cancer unit at the hospital.

The annual Tom Saul Memorial Vintage Snowmobile Ride is hitting the trails March 2 for a 45-kilometre round trip.

"This year marks the 10th Annual Tom Saul Memorial Ride. Tom lost his 13-year battle to cancer in 2010, shortly after our first vintage snowmobile ride. Since then, our annual ride has been dedicated to raising funds for the local hospital cancer unit as a way for us to honour and remember our close and dear friend Tom. It is a small gesture but it helps provide some comfort and patient care for those undergoing cancer treatments," said Dan Girard, an executive member of the Cochrane Classic Vintage Riders Club.

The ride starts at the Polar Bear Habitat parking lot. There's a meet and greet at 9 a.m. and the ride start around 10:30 a.m.

All sleds and riders are welcome to participate. The cost is a minimum donation of $10.

There is a dinner/soiree after the ride at the curling club. Tickets are $20 and there will be a cash bar.

Last year, more than 110 riders took part and raised $9,300 for Lady Minto Hospital in Cochrane. In the past nine years, the club has donated almost $30,000 to the cancer unit.
