Video footage leads police to theft suspect

Nearly $170 worth of stuff was stolen from a west-end retailer last night

The Timmins Police Service has completed its investigation into an incident where a suspect is alleged to have committed theft and later found to be in possession of stolen goods.

The Timmins Police Service was called in to investigate an incident where the suspect had allegedly made off with nearly $170 worth of stolen items from a west-end retailer at approximately 9:45 p.m. yesterday evening.

The suspect was readily identified by the Timmins Police Service thanks in part to the assistance of in-store video equipment.

The suspect was located a short while later by Timmins Police officers.

Chester Williams, 37, of Timmins, has been arrested and charged with:

  • One count of Theft Under $5,000 contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • One count of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000 contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • One count of Fail to Comply with Probation Order contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

The accused person was held in police custody awaiting a bail hearing slated for this morning at Provincial Court in Timmins.
