Urban Park Market launches new season (8 photos)

The medical officer of health officially rung in the first market of the year

A new season of the Urban Park Market is officially underway downtown Timmins.

The launch of the 2021 season for the weekly farmers' market was rung in today by Porcupine Health Unit medical officer of health Dr. Lianne Catton and the emergency services committee for the City of Timmins.

“They’re responsible for everything that happened with vaccination clinics, mobilizing resources to keep us all safe,” said Cindy Campbell, Downtown Timmins BIA executive director.

The farmers' market runs every Thursday, opening at 11 a.m. on Third Avenue.

“We have some great vendors, all the vendors that we’ve had in the past and we actually have new ones coming out as produce ripens a little later on in the summer,” said Campbell.

“We have our usuals every week, come on out if you need fresh eggs, fresh meat, you want some cheeses, we’ve got some fresh baked goods … there’s something for everybody.”

While there will be different vendors every week, she said there are six main ones that are set up every week.

People interested in being a vendor should call 705-264-8733.

“We’re definitely looking for the homemade produce and farmers, but if somebody has a unique craft or skill — give us a call,” she said.

The BIA also has permission to close the street on Wednesdays for the Urban Park, however, the children's programming and tables that are put out for people to enjoy cannot open until Step 3 of the Roadmap to Reopen.

As part of the launch, the Downtown Timmins BIA also made a donation to the Anti-hunger Coalition Timmins Farm to Fork program on behalf of the emergency services committee.
