Unlucky Day for Driving Under Suspension and Texting Drivers

(SOUTH PORCUPINE) – An officer with the South Porcupine OPP’s Highway Safety Division (HSD) has charged a driver with Driving Under Suspension stemming from a routine traffic stop on July 23rd, 2013.

The OPP officer had occasion to stop the driver of a Dodge Avenger passenger vehicle for an alleged driving violation on Hwy 101 in German Twp (east of Timmins).

Based on the routine investigative steps taken by the OPP officer, it was determined that the driver is currently under suspension in the province of Ontario.

Catherine JORON, 40, of Timmins, Ontario, has been charged with Driving While Under Suspension contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.

JORON is required to attend Provincial Court in Timmins on September 5th to answer to the charge laid against her.

 

(SOUTH PORCUPINE) – An officer with the South Porcupine OPP has charged a local driver with a traffic offence contrary to the Highway Traffic Act stemming from an event which occurred on July 22nd.

The OPP officer, who was off duty at the time, took note of a vehicle being driven by a man who was texting while driving and on occasion,  crossing the centre line  of Hwy 101 in Tisdale Twp.

The driver was located and interviewed by the OPP later that same day.

As a result, Danneil JOHNSON, 31, of Timmins has been charged with Operate Motor Vehicle While Using Handheld Communications Device contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.

The South Porcupine OPP reminds motorists that the dangers of driving while distracted are real and cannot  be underestimated.  Those motorists who insist on driving without due care and attention for other motorists can rightfully expect to face the consequences which can include being served with offence notices, and court appearances, if deemed necessary.
