Two new wildfires ignited near Sudbury

Officials say they are the only active fires in the northern region

The Ministry of Northern Development, Mines, Natural Resources and Forestry (MNDMNRF) reported two new wildfires near Sudbury in today's release.

  • Sudbury 26 fire, which was confirmed late afternoon, measures 0.5 hectares and is located west of Sudbury between Totten and Armstrong Lakes. It is not yet under control.
  • Sudbury 27 was confirmed today in the evening, and it measures 0.4 hectares. It was spotted approximately 1.5 km west of Wanapitae Lake and 10 km east of Capreol. Aerial fire suppression aircraft have been actioning this fire at the time of this update.

The ministry says these two wildfires are the only active fires in the northeast region.
