Two new wildfires ignited in northeast region

There is one other active fire in the region, officials say

Two new wildfires have been reported in the northeast region, the Ministry of Northern Development, Mines, Natural Resources and Forestry said in today's release.

The fires of note include:

  • Timmins 13 fire, which is located on a small island on the eastern side of Horwood Lake. It was confirmed this afternoon, and it was reported as not being under control at the time of this update.
  • Chapleau 14 fire, which is being held at 0.1 of a hectare. It is located approximately 17 km south of Biscotasi Lake and approximately 20 km west of Highway 144.

There is one other active wildfire in the northeast region, and it was reported to be under control, the ministry said. 

  • Timmins 11, a 4.6-hectare fire, was confirmed Thursday afternoon. It is located south of Timmins, three km east of Kenogamassi Lake and six km west of Latimer Lake.
