NEWS RELEASE

***********************
On Saturday, March 3, 2018, officers from the Timmins Police Service conducted two RIDE programs within the city.

The first was conducted on snowmobiles and resulted in one Provincial Offence Notice for Driving with no permit. During the snowmobile RIDE program, approximately 76 snowmobiles were stopped, and no impaired driving charges were laid.

The second RIDE program began at approximately 4 p.m. and saw 124 vehicles stopped. Three road side breath tests were administered to drivers. One driver was charged as a result of the RIDE program. Georges Potvin, 47, of Timmins was charged with:
    •    Impaired driving and
    •    Driving with more than 80 mg of alcohol in 100 ml of blood.

He was released on a Promise to Appear in court.

Later that evening at approximately 11:45 p.m., an officer on general patrol observed a vehicle driving erratically in the area of First Ave. and Pine St. S. Police effected a traffic stop a short distance later, and upon speaking to the driver of the vehicle noted signs of impairment. As a result of the investigation, David Sr. Hardisty, 52, of Timmins faces charges of:
    •    Impaired driving,
    •    Driving with more than 80 mg of alcohol in 100 ml of blood,
    •    Driving while suspended (Highway Traffic Act); and
    •    Disobey stop sign – fail to stop (Highway Traffic Act).

All residents are no doubt aware of the dangers of impaired driving – the financial implications, court processes, and possible devastation caused by the decision to drive impaired. Yet each month, we continue to see individuals choosing to drive impaired. We encourage the public to make the right decision – call a taxi, use public transit, call a friend for a ride, or walk. By making the safe decision, you can help make Timmins a safer community for everyone.
