Fireball erupts from Marten River transport crash scene (update)

Witnesses say there is lots of smoke

1:02 p.m. update:

At 12:30 p.m. firefighters were still trying to extinguish the blaze created when two transport trucks collided on Highway 11 around 9 a.m. today near Marten River.

Roads were reported to be slushy at the time.

It's unconfirmed but one truck appears to have been carrying propane. Emergency personnel on scene told BayToday the flames reached as high as 400 feet.

A firefighter says one person was killed in the crash.

11 a.m. original story:

NORTH BAY — There are reports of a major accident near Marten River this morning. Highway 11 is blocked.

Witnesses say there is lots of smoke, and is apparently a multi-transport collision.

The crash occurred about 9 a.m.

There are unconfirmed reports that two transports collided and there was a fatality.
