Traffic stop leads to weapons charges

Investigation revealed that the accused was also wanted by the Ontario Provincial Police

On Sept. 1, 2017, at approximately 12:20 a.m., officers on general patrol observed an individual driving a vehicle who they recognized as being a suspended driver. Police initiated a traffic stop and further investigation revealed that the individual was wanted by the Ontario Provincial Police for an unrelated matter. He was placed under arrest.

A routine search of the accused revealed that he was in possession of a prohibited weapon, and was also bound by a prohibition order not to possess weapons or ammunition. Police also seized a quantity of controlled substances.

As a result, Terry Vaillancourt, 41 of Timmins, faces charges including possession of a prohibited weapon while prohibited to do so, possession of a prohibited device or ammunition, and possession of a Schedule II Substance.

He was released on a Promise to Appear in court with a future court date of Oct. 10, 2017 in Timmins.
