Traffic stop in Kirkland Lake results in impaired driving charges

Accused had his licence suspended and vehicle impounded

KIRKLAND LAKE - On Oct. 18, 2019 at 3:56 a.m., members of the Kirkland Lake Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on Highway 112, in Otto Township, Ont. for a Highway Traffic Act violation.

Further investigation revealed that the driver was [allegedly] under the influence of alcohol.

As a result, Chad Lamoureux, age 28, of Ingram Township, Ont., was charged with the following:
    •    Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) of the Criminal Code (CC),
    •    Operation while impaired - alcohol, contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the CC,
    •    Speeding, contrary to section 128 of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA),
    •    Driver - fail to properly wear seat belt, contrary to section 106(2) of the HTA, and
    •    Fail to use lower beam - oncoming, contrary to section 168(1) of the HTA.

The driver was served a 90-day administrative driver licence suspension (ADLS) and their motor vehicle has been impounded for seven days.

The accused was released on a promise to appear and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on Nov. 28, 2019 in Kirkland Lake.

The OPP remains committed to enforcing impaired driving laws and educating road users about the dangers posed by motorists who drive while impaired by alcohol or drugs.
