The Timmins YMCA is getting a facelift thanks to an injection of FedNor cash.

Today, the YMCA of Northeastern Ontario (YMCA NEO) received $195,393 through FedNor and the Canada Community Revitalization Fund. It's to upgrade the organization's facilities in Timmins and Greater Sudbury.

"The YMCA of Northeastern Ontario provides critical services to people of all ages and I am proud this investment will help make its facilities safer, greener and accessible to everyone. Local infrastructure investments are so important to building stronger, healthier, and more inclusive communities. This initiative delivers on all fronts, making our region a better place to live work, play and visit," said Sudbury MP Viviane Lapointe, who made the announcement on behalf of Patty Hajdu, the minister responsible for FedNor.

In Timmins, the YMCA is located on Poplar Avenue. The facility will be getting a new roof and exterior cladding, improved insulation and the lighting will be changed to high-efficiency LED from the current fluorescent fixtures.

"Once complete, the upgrades will allow the organization to reduce energy costs and consumption, maintain services and make the facility safer for all users," reads the news release.

The Sudbury location will undergo extensive renovations to improve accessibility and upgrades will be made to the front desk area to increase safety and accessibility.
