Maria Del Col is giving a $10,000 donation of mutual fund shares to the Timmins and District Hospital Foundaiton.

A Timmins woman is leaving a lasting legacy in the community.

Maria Del Col has donated $10,000 of mutual fund shares to the Timmins and District Hospital Foundation (TADHF). The donation will be used to support high-priority needs at the hospital.

"Timmins resident Maria Del Col immigrated to Canada from Italy when she was 23. She has many fond memories of her family life, her church and working as a cook at Leone’s restaurant many moons ago. It was important to Maria that her estate plan provided clarity and support for her family and community. Maria met with her advisor specifying what gifts are to be made to family members, friends and her favourite charities," reads a TADHF news release.

Manager of donor relations Barb McCormick said a charitable bequest is a lasting statement of generosity.

"We recommend obtaining advice from an estate lawyer, financial advisor and or family to determine an option that is best for you. We are profoundly grateful to Maria and to commemorate this generous gift Maria’s name will be added to our Giving is Receiving wall. This wall is located in the hospital promenade and has been growing since 1996 with the names of individuals, families, corporations, foundations, associations and community groups whose cumulative contributions have reached or exceeded $2,000," said McCormick in a news release.
