Algoma University celebrated the academic accomplishments of its graduating students studying in Timmins Friday afternoon at the Northern College Spring 2019 Convocation Ceremony.

President and Vice-Chancellor Asima Vezina conferred degrees on students who successfully completed the requirements of the Honours Bachelor of Social Work and Bachelor of Arts in Community Development programs offered by Algoma University at the Timmins campus of Northern College.

"The growth of our programming and student success in Timmins is a clear reflection of Algoma University's Mandate to support access to high-quality undergraduate education in Northern Ontario,” said President Vezina. “We are delighted to participate in the Northern College convocation ceremony and to share as a partner in the celebration of the success of both Northern College and Algoma University students. Congratulations to each and every one of the graduates celebrating today!"

Graduates from the AU Timmins campus are also invited to attend Algoma’s convocation ceremony in Sault Ste. Marie scheduled for June 8.

In addition to celebrating the achievement of those who successfully completed their studies, incoming Algoma University student Amanda Carter was recognized during the 2019 Northern College Grad Awards Ceremony, held on Thursday evening.

Amanda is the second-ever recipient of the Commitment to ‘Northern. Value.’ Bursary. The bursary is awarded to Northern College graduates who are continuing their post-secondary education through Algoma U offerings in Timmins.

The bursary is tied to a special joint admissions agreement established between the two institutions that have generated a record number of new applications for fall 2019 intake.

Algoma looks forward to continued collaboration with Northern College to address post-secondary programming needs in Timmins and the surrounding region and cultivating cross-cultural learning between Anishinaabe communities and other communities in the north, including our new 2+2 pathway agreements.

Congratulations to all of our 2019 graduates:

  • Jocelyne Aube
  • Cassandra Brousseau
