Timmins snowmobile trails closed

Local club says that trails took a 'major beating' over the weekend

The rain and warm weather are wreaking havoc on the local snowmobile season.

The Timmins Snowmobile Club has closed all of its snowmobile trails for rider safety and to protect landowners, the club said in a Facebook post today (March 4).

"We have very little base and the trails took a major beating this weekend. We also had reports of a few snow bridges that have washed out as well," they wrote.

"The trails are nowhere near our regular standards and although some areas may still have snow other sections are bare with exposed rocks, stumps and sections along the highway and around town are very bad."

Because the trails are closed, it means that snowmobiles are also not allowed on the streets permitted for use during the sledding season.

If you're looking to get out for a rip, some trails are open in the Hearst area. The Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Club interactive trail guide also shows that trails in Kapuskasing, Cochrane, Iroquois Falls and Kirkland Lake have limited access.
