Timmins-area schools aren't affected by the one-day strike announced today by the Ontario Secondary School Teachers' Federation (OSSTF).

The union and government have yet to reach a new contract agreement and OSSTF is staging another one-day strike Wednesday, Dec. 18 at certain school boards.

District School Board Ontario North East is not included on the list, and the schools will be open for students.

Dec. 4, local OSSTF members took part in a province-wide, one-day walkout. A one-day strike was held at select locations Dec. 11. Timmins was not a part of that one either.

At DSB1, the OSSTF represents high school teachers, attendance counsellors, child and youth workers, early childhood educators, educational assistants, social workers and Indigenous student advisors.

The job action started Nov. 26 is continuing across the province.

Members are not doing standardized testing or prep, completing Ministry of Education Data Reports, participating in school board professional activities, taking part in unpaid staff meetings outside the regular school day, commenting on report cards, or performing work of another bargaining unit.
