Timmins' main drag has maintained its spot as the worst road in the region.

CAA has released its list of the worst roads in Ontario.

Algonquin Boulevard East in Timmins is the worst in Northern Ontario. In last year's contest, the road made the top 10 list twice.

The annual campaign allows people to nominate the worst roads, which are then voted on. CAA says it's a way for people to make roads safer by identifying what roadway improvements are important to the people.

“The Worst Roads Survey is a way to take the temperature of the people who use the roads day to day. By collecting this information and sharing it with the municipalities, we ensure road users voices are heard,” said Jeff Walker, CEO and President of CAA North & East Ontario, in a news release.

The top five worst roads in Northern Ontario are:

  1. Algonquin Boulevard East, Timmins
  2. Fielding Road, Greater Sudbury
  3. Premier Road, North Bay
  4. Panache Lake Road, Greater Sudbury
  5. Van Horne Street, Greater Sudbury

The north region includes the districts of Algoma, Cochrane, Kenora, Manitoulin, Nipissing, Parry Sound and more. While there are no Thunder Bay roads in the top five, CAA says dozens of roads were nominated, including Harbour Expressway, Arthur Street West and James Street.

In Timmins, Algonquin Boulevard is part of the Connecting Link.

Two stretches of the road are being reconstructed this year.

Riverside Drive between Shirley Street and Government Road is reduced to one lane in each direction for construction.

The other segment of Connecting Link work being done in 2023 is in the downtown area from Wilcox to Cedar Street. For that construction, Algonquin Boulevard is currently closed east of Waterloo to Elm Street.
