The Timmins Police, in partnership with the OPP’s South Porcupine detachment, officially kicked off the holiday RIDE program on Wednesday, November 20, 2013.

Police stopped a total of 450 vehicles, and administered one roadside screening test.

Two charges were laid under the Highway Traffic Act, and four drivers were given warnings for faulty headlights. No impaired driving charges were laid.

“Last night’s RIDE program numbers are very encouraging,” said TPS traffic Sergeant Al Richardson. “These numbers show us that people are heeding our warnings about drinking and driving.”

He added that Timmins Police officers will be administering RIDE programs throughout the holiday season.

“This doesn’t mean we’re going to let up,” added Richardson. “We want this trend to continue into the next weeks and months.”
