Timmins police find wanted woman on Birch Street North

She faces several new charges after disturbance

The Timmins Police Service has charged a local woman stemming from an investigation into allegations of theft and mischief to private property which occurred on the evening of Saturday, March 23.

Officers with the Timmins Police Service were responding to a disturbance on Birch Street North on Saturday evening and observed a person known to them as being wanted on the strength of an Arrest Warrant fleeing the scene.

The person was interviewed by the Timmins Police officers while the validity of the warrant was confirmed.

The woman was taken into custody on the strength of the warrant. A cursory search of her belongings was conducted in keeping with proper police procedures.

It is alleged that stolen property was located among her personal effects.

Further investigation by the Timmins Police Service alleges that the woman had damaged a passenger vehicle earlier in the evening prior to her arrest.

As a result of this investigation, Amy Porter, 39, of Timmins, has been charged with:

  • Mischief under $5,000 contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Theft under $5,000 contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Fail To Comply with Recognizance contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

The accused remains in police custody and is currently awaiting a bail hearing slated for this morning at Provincial Court in Timmins to answer to the charges laid against her.
