Mayor George Pirie has proclaimed Saturday, May 8 as Steps for Life Day in the city. The flag for the event is flying at city hall.

"Every year in Canada, close to 1,000 workers are killed on the job, or die as a result of a work-related injury or illness," reads the city news release.

"The Association for Workplace Tragedy Family Support, known as Threads of Life, supports the healing journey of families who have suffered from a workplace fatality,  traumatic life-altering injury, or occupational disease."

Steps for Life is a five-kilometre walk that supports families affected by life-altering workplace injuries, illnesses and deaths.

The event is being held virtually this year, allowing households more versatility to participate.
