Timmins man accused of stealing sports jerseys, bicycle

The suspect was already wanted in regards to a weapons incident

The Timmins Police Service has charged a local man with theft-related offences stemming from an incident which occurred during the evening hours of Wednesday, Aug. 28 in the vicinity of Schumacher.

While completing patrols of the Schumacher area, a Timmins Police Service officer recognized a suspect on a bicycle who was wanted by police in regards to an incident involving weapons. The suspect was halted and arrested by the Timmins Police officer.

A cursory search of the suspect incident to arrest resulted in the discovery of three sports jerseys with a combined value of $350.00 allegedly stolen from a Timmins sports equipment retailer. Further investigation revealed that the bicycle was allegedly stolen from a Balsam Street address in Timmins.

The police confirmed the pertinent details and took the suspect into custody.

As a result of the incident, Jaime Lewis-Beckford, 40, of Timmins, Ontario, has been charged with:

  • Two count of possession of property obtained by crime contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.
  • Fail to comply with probation order contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

The accused was held in police custody awaiting a bail hearing slated for this morning at Provincial Court in Timmins to answer to the charges laid against him.
