Timmins man accused of stealing a vehicle, fleeing from police

Police recognized a stolen vehicle; The driver allegedly abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot

The Timmins Police Service has charged a local man with a number of Criminal Code charges stemming from an incident involving a stolen vehicle during the noon hour of Tuesday, Sept. 10.

While completing patrols of the north end of the city, a Timmins Police Service officer recognized a stolen vehicle being driven by a male subject. When attempts were undertaken to stop the vehicle, the driver [allegedly] abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot.

The suspect was located and arrested a short while later by the Timmins Police Service. The vehicle was recovered and police ascertained that other allegedly stolen items were present in the vehicle.

As a result of the incident, Peter Albert, 34, of Timmins, Ontario, has been charged with:

  • Four counts of possession of property obtained by crime contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Mischief under $5000 contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Resist peace officer contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Possession of break-in tools contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Breach of probation contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

The accused was held in police custody awaiting a bail hearing slated for this morning at Provincial Court in Timmins to answer to the charges laid against him.
