Timmins man accused of robbing pharmacy

Police say he also defiled the cell area and assaulted an officer

The Timmins Police Service has charged a local person with theft-related offences stemming from an incident that occurred yesterday evening at an Algonquin Boulevard East pharmacy in Timmins. 

A Timmins Police Service officer responded to the call for service regarding a person who had attended the pharmacy and proceeded to steal several items and fled on foot after being confronted by store staff. 

Based on the investigation, the responding Timmins Police officer was able to identify, locate, and arrest the male suspect a short distance away and recover nearly $250 worth of stolen merchandise. 

Once in custody, the suspect proceeded to defile the cell area and engaged in an assault on a Timmins Police officer at one point. 

As a result of the incident, Sylvain Levesque, 54, of Timmins, has been charged with: 

  • Theft under $5,000 contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Possession of property obtained by crime contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Assault of a peace officer contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Mischief contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

Levesque remains in police custody, awaiting a bail hearing slated for today at the Ontario Court of Justice in Timmins to answer to the charges laid against him.
