Timmins man accused of assaulting police

The Timmins Police Service has charged a local man stemming from a disturbance at a local bank in Timmins.

A Timmins Police Service officer responded to a call concerning an unwanted person in a bank vestibule yesterday morning (06 March).

Upon being interviewed by the officer, the subject is alleged to have become irate and uncooperative with the officer.

While completing an arrest under the Trespass to Property Act, the suspect is further alleged to have assaulted the responding officer and an off-duty Timmins Police Service officer who was nearby and was rendering assistance to the original responding officer.

The man was eventually taken into police custody without further incident.

As a result of this incident, Charles Spence, 35, of Timmins, has been charged with:
    •    two counts of assault peace officer contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
    •    resist peace officer contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

The accused remains in police custody awaiting a bail hearing slated for this morning at Provincial Court in Timmins to answer to the charges laid against him.
