Editor's note: The lockdown has been lifted

Timmins High and Vocational School is engaged in a 'lockdown', according to Timmins Police.

In a Facebook post, police said the lockdown is a precautionary measure based on information received by police. Police say there is "no active threat to any student or faculty member at any of the affected schools."

"This measure is deemed necessary for the time being as a public safety requirment. Appropriate police resources have been deployed to preserve the safety of the students and faculty. Concurrently, Investigative efforts are underway to determine the validity and extent of the elements of the reported matter," reads the post.

"Additionally, Ecole Catholique Secondaire Theriault has adopted "Hold and Secure" measures until the original complaint has been determined to be factual or fictitious."

This is the second time recently that schools have been been placed in a hold and secure.

Nov. 21, a number of schools were placed in in a hold and secure after two independent callers reported to see a male riding a bike transporting a rifle.
