Timmins High principal named new acting superintendent

He's replacing Jim Rowe, who's retiring this year

A Timmins principal will be taking on a new role later this year. 

Al McLean has been named the acting superintendent of education for the southern region of District School Board Ontario North East (DSB1), the board announced today. The promotion is effective Aug. 8. McLean's replacing Jim Rowe, who is retiring.

"I am excited for this new opportunity to serve as a superintendent and to work with such a strong administrative council team focused on student achievement and well-being. I look forward to continuing to further the work being done in DSB1 to empower all students to achieve personal excellence," said McLean in a news release.

Board chair Bob Brush congratulates McLean on the appointment.

"We are confident that the strong leadership skills demonstrated by Mr. McLean throughout his career will continue to be an asset to DSB1,"  said Brush.

McLean has 26 years of experience in education, 19 of which were in administrative roles at the elementary and secondary levels. He is currently the Timmins High & Vocational School principal.

"I am so proud of the appointment of Al McLean to the DSB1 administrative council team. I look forward to working closely with him to continue to support all learners in DSB1," said Lesleigh Dye, director of education.

The board also thanks Rowe for "his commitment and dedication during his tenure with the board."
