After a tense meeting at the end of October, Timmins council is back at the table tonight.

A mayor's salary review, the next phase of the Connecting Link work, and an update on new apartment buildings are all on the busy agenda.

Here's a look at what's on tap for tonight's meeting:

  • With staff recommending the city lease its vehicle fleet through an agreement with Enterprise Fleet Management, the Timmins Auto Dealer Association is slated to give a deputation. There is no presentation attached to the delegation. At the last meeting, Enterprise pitched the leasing arrangement to council, but a vote on the item was deferred. "The city will no longer be required to provide the vehicle costs upfront through the capital budget but instead pay a monthly fee through the annual operating budget over the replacement cycle with any cost saving being incorporated into the program following the sale of each vehicle. Moving forward will allow for consistent annual fleet management costs," reads the report, which can be found here.
  • Two new apartment buildings in South Porcupine would decrease the sewer capacity in that area by one per cent, according to a City of Timmins report. Last month, a zoning change was approved for 185 Crawford St. to allow for Praztek Construction to build two, three-storey buildings with six apartments each on the lot. This week's report provides five potential solutions for concerns about the infrastructure.
  • Do Timmins roads need a diet? An engineering presentation is suggesting a road diet for Theriault Boulevard. It would see the road reduced from four lanes to three lanes where it approaches Jubilee and adding bicycle lanes to both roads. The full Tatham Engineering presentation is available here. It does not include what the cost would be for the city to make the changes.
  • There's a recommendation to tender a three-year contract for the next phase of the Connecting Link on Algonquin Boulevard. At the last council meeting, staff pitched a revised plan for the work that would see the downtown phases done first with multi-year contracts. Staff wants to build on the momentum of this year's work and continue easterly on Algonquin from Theriault to Brunette over the next three years. The estimated cost for three years is $25.9 million. "This may require the city to debenture this project as there is no guarantee of Connecting Link funding annually," reads the report. The city is also applying for the maximum $3 million in provincial funding for the Connecting Link work. Funding was received for this year's work. Traditionally, the city has been receiving funding every two years.
  • There is a report for a mayor's salary review, which was requested by Coun. Andrew Marks at the last meeting. A report with further details is not included in the agenda.
  • There is a resolution to allow Coun. Mickey Auger to be absent from council meetings. If a councillor is absent from meeting for three successive months, their seat is declared vacant under the Municipal Act unless council authorizes the absence through a resolution.

None of these items have been approved by council.

The meeting is at 6 p.m. tonight (Nov. 9) in council chambers at city hall. The full agenda is available here.
