A Timmins church is hosting a memorial service for Queen Elizabeth II.

The Diocese of Moosonee is holding the simple service of thanksgiving on Sunday, Oct. 2 at 7 p.m. at St. Matthews Cathedral, 331 Fifth Ave.

"The service is one of many commemorative gatherings planned in Anglican dioceses and parishes across Canada and offers an opportunity to remember the life of Queen Elizabeth II who, as reigning British monarch, was also the supreme governor of the Church of England," reads a news release.

The service will be in the form of an evening prayer and there will be no eulogies or special tributes from dignitaries.

"Rather it is intended as a simple service of thanksgiving with readings and music related to the expression of the late Queen’s Christian faith in worship and a life of service. All are warmly welcomed to participate and to share in conversation and light refreshment thereafter," said the church.

The church is not fully accessible and people can attend in person or on Zoom. To request the link, email [email protected].
