A Timmins athlete took home a prestigious award recently.

Kristen Vane is the winner of Collège Boréal's Denis Dionne Award for sporting spirit. The award was created in honour of Dionne, who's a former coach of the college's badminton team. The Collège Boréal Foundation presents it annually to a player who's shown outstanding team spirit.

The award was one of 23 handed out at the Vipères Gala held April 13 in Sudbury. It was the first time since the start of the pandemic that an in-person gala was held.

"This year more than ever, I raise my hat to the Vipères athletes for their perseverance in the face of the uncertainties brought about by the pandemic. We are all proud to see them perform at such a high level, despite having been forced to stop training at the college’s sports centre. I salute their sporting and academic successes and I admire their determination and talent. The entire Boréal family takes pride in our athletes," said Daniel Giroux, Collège Boréal president, in a news release.
