With one COVID-19 recovery being reported today, the Porcupine Health Unit is back to no known active cases.

It's been nearly a week since the last cases were announced, with two being reported Saturday, Oct. 23.

To date, there have been 2,222 lab-confirmed cases of the virus in the region. Of those, 2,191 are recovered and 31 people have died. There is one known active case in the area of Cochrane, Matheson, Iroquois Falls and Smooth Rock Falls.

There are 55,591 people who have received at least one dose of the vaccine in the region. There have been 106,398 doses administered.

While the Porcupine Health Unit region's activity is currently low, down Highway 144 the Sudbury area is seeing a surge in cases and has one of the highest case counts in the province.

Public Health Sudbury & District's medical officer of health Dr. Penny Sutcliffe issued a new order today around self-isolation in an effort to stop the new spread of COVID-19.

There are COVID-19 assessment centres in Timmins, Cochrane, Iroquois Falls, Matheson, Kapuskasing, Smooth Rock Falls, Hearst, and Hornepayne, as well as communities on the James Bay coast.
