Making a donation to the Timmins and District Humane Society will get you a tasty ticket tomorrow

Tiffany's owners Mike and Leslie Auclair are celebrating their 20th anniversary of owning the landmark corner store at Wende and Wilcox this year.

To celebrate, on Friday, July 5 from 11:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. for every donation made to the Timmins and District Humane Society at the store, the donator will receive a ticket for either a free mini poutine or small ice cream cone. Their name will also be entered into a draw, with the top prize being four tickets to the Aug. 11 Toronto Blue Jays game against the New York Yankees.

The number of tickets you get depends on the size of the donation. For example, $2 will get you one ticket, while $50 will get you 12.

This isn't the first time the Auclairs are celebrating their business anniversary by giving back.

For their 10-year bash, they did a fundraiser for the Timmins and District Hospital.

At that time, Mike said they raised more than $3,000. Tomorrow, he's hoping to raise at least $4,000.

“We do want to chip in to help the community. We started sponsoring a hockey team three years ago,” he said. “We try and give back as much as we can."

The Auclairs took over the variety store in 1999.

At the time, Leslie had been working at Alfies.

“Then we were looking for something, I wanted something more than that...we had never even been in this store and we had heard they might be looking to sell,” she said.

They started researching, and before long they were in the process of buying it.

In 2012, work on the take out part of the business started.

"We knew we wanted to have a signature burger and we were also looking to have some type of theme. The fact we are off the beaten path we chose the letter W to be our theme to point out the corner of Wende and Wilcox, which is why we have all the W's on our menu," said. Mike.

While it hasn't always been known as Tiffany's, the corner store has been around for decades.

The couple has a photo taken in 1945 of a corner store at the site.

"It has had many names since 1945 but apparently when it became Tiffany's, it was named after the owner's dog," said Mike.

The couple has always had dogs, so when the staff suggested raising cash for the humane society, they thought it was an excellent cause.

Along with the treats and raffle, a stilt walker will be on site for the fundraiser, along with representatives from Timmins and District Humane Society.
