Forest fire near Timmins under control

There are three new forest fires in the northeast region today

Three new fires — two in the Sault area and one in Sudbury — have been discovered in the northeast region as of June 6, Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services stated in a release issued this evening.

One fire near Timmins that started June 2 is under control at 6.5 hectares. It is south of Forks and Lower Forks Lake, which is south of the city.

For the new fires reported today, Sault Ste. Marie 9, located south of Serpent River on an island, is being held at 0.1 of a hectare, while Sault Ste. Marie 10 is 0.2 of a hectare and not under control. This fire is located north of Little White River Provincial Park.
 

The third fire, Sudbury 20, located within Killarney Provincial Park,  is 0.1 of a hectare and is not under control at this time.

The fire hazard in southern and central portions of the region ranges mostly from moderate to high, while areas to the north are seeing a low to moderate hazard. Some areas near Timmins, White River and along Highway 11 showing a high hazard today.
