Third period outburst lifts Rock over Gold Miners

The Timmins Rock broke open a close game with three third period tallies in a 5-1 road win over the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners at the Joe Mavrinac Community Complex on Saturday night.

The Rock opened the scoring as Lucas Lowe recorded his 12th of the season just before the five minute mark of the opening frame.

The Rock increased its lead in the second as Jack Anderson beat Gold Miners goalie Trent Boryszczuk for a shorthanded tally at 6:56.

The Gold Miners cut into the lead late in the second when Riley Babich solved Rock starter Patrick Boivin to make it 2-1 after 40 minutes.

Early in the third Liam Wells got the Rock their two-goal advantage again with his 25th tally at 1:31 of the third.

Less than three minutes later it was Henry McLellan who recorded his 4th to make it 4-1 at 5:10.

Wells netted his second of the game in the final minute to make it 5-1.

Ethan Albert and Brant Romaniuk each added a pair of helpers for the Rock in the win.
